(2014) Wavering for orchestra

About

Wavering (2014),
for orchestra (7.5′)

Program Note

Wavering is a work born of doubt and anxiety. Its title must be understood both literally and in all senses: that it refers to musical processes as much as it refers to the experience of its composition; that it suggests a fundamental insecurity as well as a subtle motion between states. On the one hand it is characterized by a near-pervasive flatness, a tendency towards stillness, however unstable. On the other, a motion away from stasis: an excitement of elements. Motion of any kind becomes a motion away from the neutral state. This opposition between the neutral and the positive forms the thread that binds the work.
